How would you describe 'Similar But Not the Same' to a new reader?
- I would call it realistic science fiction. It's the first book in my Domino Sagas. It is a look into the future how we may live on the Moon and Mars. How we might greet new aliens if they came.
What was the inspiration behind <Similar But Not the Same> ?
- Articles about Mars and joining a new book writing club. I wanted to explore an alien's viewpoint of our society.
Which authors do you admire? How have they influenced your writing style?
- Issac Asimov, by his futuristic stories, Agatha Christie by her mysteries and detail for clues, and Rita Mae Brown for her talking animals.
Can you tell us a little about the locations in the book?
- The story takes place on Mars
What advice would you give to aspiring authors? How would you advise a new author about traditional publishing versus self publishing?
- Read, read, and read. I chose self-publishing due to my age. I don't have the time to wait until a traditional publisher can decide if they want my book. Self-publishing pays more and allows you more freedom to update your book.
What's your writing process?
- I write from morning to afternoon. It will take me from one to three months, then I self edit and put the manuscript through Grammarly. After that, I send out my document to beta readers and edit, edit, edit. After I've reread my book for the tenth time, I submit it to my editor. I edit, edit, and edit again until I'm satisfied the story is smooth for reading.
Which character in <Similar But Not the Same> has had the greatest impact on readers?
- The woman who solves the murder case
If 'Similar But Not the Same' were to be adapted for TV or film, who would you see in the lead role? Who did you have in your mind’s eye when you wrote him/her?
- I'm not familiar with the current actor names. She would be blond and loves cats.
How have readers responded to <Similar But Not the Same>?
- The story line is quite good.
The author has put some thought into her world. The setting and world building are unique and interesting and should appeal to sci-fi readers.
Where next? What are you working on now?
- A Travel mystery. I keep a journal of trips I have taken. From my notes, I create a story. After this one, I have a science fiction young adult half finished that I will complete.
