THE LONGER VERSION
Profile is a community of authors, working together to increase awareness of our work.
I’M AN AUTHOR – HOW DO I SET UP AN INTERVIEW?
Please go to profilecritics.com/register and register an account. It’s free. Once you’ve registered you can list your books and we’ll start the whole process off. It doesn't take long and it's entirely under your control
WHAT HAPPENS THEN?
We will give you 2 unique URLs to promote your interview. Every visitor who uses one of these URLs brings you Kudos points. Those points determine how often your book appears - in the interviews, and also alongside articles on the website. Your Kudos will look like this:
In this example the author's total Kudos is 675, made up of 373 visitors to their own interview and 302 visitors to articles (eg book reviews) which they have posted (that month). The higher your Kudos figure, the more frequently your books will be displayed.
HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT ME?
- Your work will be in good company
- Your interview is an opportunity to tell the world a little about yourself and your work
- When you promote any article on the site, those visitors earn you Kudos points which translates to strangers seeing your book and your interview
- Your interview is seen by a far wider circle than the usual suspects - every time an author promotes their interview, they're also promoting other writers - sharing the love
- Your book cover is shown with the articles on the website. These reach a wide readership, and each book cover is a direct link to your sales page (eg Amazon). So you're gaining brand recognition and sales
Suppose you have 100 followers - family, friends, fans. You're just starting out. There's little point telling these 100 people about your book - they already know about it. Profile lets 400-500 new people see your book every time you bring in 100 visitors.
HOW MUCH DO I PAY?
It would be appreciated if you would buy a copy of my book: The Amnesia Desk as a 'thank you'. It's definitely the cheapest marketing site out there!
MORE INFO ON KUDOS POINTS
When you have registered you will also see a block of text (see example below) at the top of articles (reviews, interviews etc)
Example pages include:
https://profilecritics.com/content/interview/Bernard_Cornwell
https://profilecritics.com/content/interview/Caimh_McDonnell
https://profilecritics.com/content/review/poverty-safari-review
https://profilecritics.com/content/review/Regenesis
https://profilecritics.com/content/review/Bellingcat
https://profilecritics.com/content/page/Mick_Herron
This link is unique to you, so you can promote any article you wish on the main website and gain extra kudos points. Each author's version will be slightly different, because the unique referral link will have a slightly different code. If you right click on this block you can 'copy link address'. This can then be pasted into Facebook, Twitter etc.
Alternatively, just click on the relevant icon. The 'right click' option is ideal on a laptop/PC. The icons are handy when you're on a tablet.
HOW DO I INCREASE MY KUDOS POINTS?
-
Promote your interview. The URL we sent you acts as a tracker – it’s unique to you, so every time somebody visits using that URL, your kudos score goes up
-
Promote articles on the site. When you are logged in you’ll see some link text near the top of each article page. Right click on it and select ‘copy link address’ (or use the social media buttons) to promote the article. Every visitor who uses this link will bring you extra kudos points
You can use these links in various ways:
-
As permalinks from your blog or website
-
In email blasts
-
As Facebook posts
-
On Twitter. Remember to use hashtags to connect your post with relevant trends. For example, hashtag the book's title and @ the author, if it’s a book review
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR PROFILE?
We're quite a new ezine, and growing rapidly. Expect to see spin-off sites so that your work can have an even broader exposure to the reading world. We're run by authors for authors and readers, and we're passionate about giving great books a chance
SO IF I BRING MORE VISITORS, MY BOOK IS SEEN MORE OFTEN?
Yes, exactly that. You can:
- Promote your interview
- Promote articles on the website
Both will add to your kudos score. The articles are helpful because they're something different - it doesn't look as if you're just promoting yourself
I HAVE QUESTIONS - WHO DO I ASK?
