How would you describe The Luck of Han'anga to a new reader?
- In essence, this is a first contact story between humans and a species of aliens, who are not truly alien.
What was the inspiration behind The Luck of Han'anga ?
- The desire to try my hand at the sub-genre known as space opera and see if I could do something a little different with it.
Which authors do you admire? How have they influenced your writing style?
- Far too many authors over the years to name, but all of them together have given me the grounding I need to tell a tale of this sort.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors? How would you advise a new author about traditional publishing versus self publishing?
- First and foremost, finish what you've started. You need to be a writer before you can be an author. As for traditional versus self published, try both. It's the only way to know which one is best for you.
What's your writing process?
- It starts with a daydream that leads to the headlong rush to complete a first draft. That first draft is the key. I've got nothing until I tell the story. Then I revise it, have it edited, probably revise some more, and finally have a proof reader go through it. Only then do I hit publish. Then I start the next one. No looking back.
How have readers responded to The Luck of Han'anga?
- Well enough that it has maintained a 4.5 star rating (give or take a tenth) since it was published in 2012.
