Quick description of the book for a new reader - what should they expect?
  • This book is for the person who doesn’t fit in in life and is experiencing the exact same thing when it comes to their spiritual walk with God. You begin to wonder why things are the way they are, and without the right guidance will begin trying to fit in because it can be painful standing out. Add church folk to that and it’s a giant mess waiting to happen. This book really is for the black sheep in the sense that I’m teaching why you being unique is good for what YOU NEED TO DO!
What was your inspiration for this book?
  • My life. I’ve been in this place and in a lot of ways I still am. I want to help people be and feel better and I’m blessed enough to not mind being an example in doing so!
Which authors do you admire? How have they influenced your writing style?
  • I love books that make you emotionally intelligent so Gary Chapmans “The 5 Love Languages” stand out but I like authors that are transparent. I want to always feel like I’m having in intimate exchange with an author not like I’m reading a school text book.
Can you tell us a little about the locations in your book?
  • That’s funny. The location of the book is you. Sure I mention places I’ve gone, and experiences I’ve had there, but the work and location I’m working on is you!
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
  • Tell your story, as presented to you and no one else’s. Learn every process associated with being an author! Be okay with making mistakes, but committed to finding solutions. And most importantly remember; you got this!
Could you talk a little about your writing process..
  • Honestly I committed to the book entirely and completed the book in about two weeks. That was the writing process. I only focused on the book and it felt more like a therapeutic release more than anything!
Which character has had the greatest impact on readers?
  • I don’t really focus on characters but there is a chapter where I talk about some experiences I’ve had in church that I think readers will relate to! Easily one of my favorite chapters in the book!
If the book were to be adapted for TV or film, who would you see in the lead role? Who did you have in your mind’s eye ?
  • If this book was a Tv show I’d have a bunch of black sheep tell their story not focus on one person. I think that would be helpful for them and the viewers
How have readers responded ?
  • Emotionally. I’ve learned that so many don’t feel they fit in and have been looking for someone to say they understand. I’m happy to be a part of that!
Where next? What are you working on now?
  • You can expect more pieces that focus on transparency. I take my experiences, my trauma and I try to steer others away from it. So as long as I’m healing it’ll be new opportunities for others to be healed.
