Which took shape first: plot, character, or setting?
  • The setting was the first thing decided. My sister inspired this mystery with all the crazy things that happened in her condo building. So of course, I had to figure out how to put the story in Musgrave Landing. In Fun with Funerals, we get a hint of this third book with Bryce seeing the builders sign on the future property.
What attracts you to this book’s genre?
  • I love mysteries, so much so even in my urban fantasy and romantic suspense novels, there is always a mystery. I love building the puzzle and fitting it all together.
What was the biggest challenge this book presented? What about the biggest opportunity?
  • Writing the condo neighbours was the biggest challenge. Each one is quirky and has their own agenda. I also took the opportunity to drop a hint as to the fourth book in the Musgrave Landing series. Hint: One of Gladys’s deliveries.
Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote this book?
  • I have two beta readers who review all my books. Leslie told me she thought CONDO CRAZY was my best book yet. This pleased and touched me. She is honest to a fault, and I value her opinion.
No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?
  • I’ve had much exposure to water sports, and I included aspects of boating in this book. The marina may yet be a future book, possibly book five in the series.
What authors or books have influenced your career as a writer, and why?
  • Ann Cleeves, certainly with her Vera series. Also, Linwood Barclay; I love how he mixes dry humour into his stories. I contacted him through Goodreads to ask if I could mention one of his books in Death and Cupcakes. He so kindly responded that if Stephen King could, so could I!
What’s the one question you wish someone would ask you about this book, or your work in general? And please answer the question too!
  • Q: Would I like to see any of my books made into films?

    A: Yes, absolutely. I think Musgrave Landing is a lovely place to be a series of films or shows. I’ve written a few treatments and sent manuscripts to Hallmark and Mills and Boon.
If Condo Crazy were to be adapted for TV or film, who would you see in the lead role? Who did you have in your mind’s eye when you wrote him/her?
  • Maggie Smith could certainly be Gladys Wyatt!

  • Yes, I am my husbands VLogger. I run his YOUTUBE channel, Pallet Cabin. He builds things out of pallets.

Synopsis

Gladys Wyatt is busy with her home bakery business. She needs to keep up with the expenses on her new condo. It would help if Linda would stop flooding the place. Freddie isn’t much bothered by the damage Linda's causes. He is more caught up in defending his medical plants from Lara Finkle, the one-time mistress of the late embezzler mayor.

How can Lara afford a unit in the new building anyway? Arlie Birch thinks he knows, but not everyone agrees.

It would also be great if Enid, the building manager and Dwayne, the condo board president, would stop coming up with new bylaws that threaten her bakery business. This makes the condo board meetings quite contentious.

When Gladys is accused by Ann Westcott of hanging prank banners on the water works building, is it possible the pranks could be related to the thief plaguing the village? Gladys suspects it was the thief who injured Matthew's dog.
She is shocked to find a body, half outside of the garage. Could the thief also be responsible for the murder? She reminds her granddaughter to keep the condo doors locked, but will that be enough?
