Author of Man On Fire
Buy this book
- Not another police/lawyer/PI story. Obsession-hot romance-murder-revenge-arson. Can a hero be a criminal? Quick description of the book for a new reader - what should they expect?
What was your inspiration for this book?
- My career as a firefighter and fire rescue officer. My department for about seven or eight years became an experiment headed toward privatization that no one wanted. No new equipment. Nepotism. Divisions in the rank and file were created. It was a disaster and morale killer.
Which authors do you admire? How have they influenced your writing style?
- Carmen Amato James Lee Burke Their imaging and suspense.
Can you tell us a little about the locations in your book?
- Niagara Falls, Canada. It's known the world over and has the perfect size fire rescue department I need for the story. I was brought up not far from there.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
- Edit, edit, edit. Join a writers group for feedback. Write to please yourself. Make sure your book is as perfect as you can get it then submit it to Beta readers for an overall look.
Could you talk a little about your writing process?
- Every chapter is worked out in my head first before it gets written. I write every chapter like a stage play. Describe the scene. In walk characters.
Which character has had the greatest impact on readers?
- Captain and now Chief Gerry Ormond is a man who will only tolerate so much before he fights back.
If the book were to be adapted for TV or film, who would you see in the lead role? Who did you have in your mind’s eye ?
- Chris Pine or John Krasinski
How have readers responded ?
- They like this firefighter series. Captain/Chief Ormond is a man caught up in circumstances and must a way out. I only wish all those who read it would post reviews on it. It's like trying to get the Pope to swear.
Where next? What are you working on now?
- THE NIKE BIRDS. To the jungles of Colombia where abduction and murder trap two students for ransom. www.yatscoffBooks.com
